Nottingham University: An overview

Thanks to Gordon Collins of  http://www.ceslondon.com/ for the following

The University has three UK campuses’; in Nottingham, Derby and Sutton Bonnington. The main campus has been voted the greenest in the world. They also have a campus in China and Malaysia, who teach the same courses in the same way and UK students can spend some time there (there are some grants and sponsorship). Overall they admitted 78% from the state sector last year and 22% from independent schools. In 2010 65% of applicants received an offer, 60% in 2011, and 61% in 2012. Admissions ratios vary hugely; physiotherapy has a ratio of 23:1, veterinary science 19:1, psychology 10:1, mechanical engineering 10:1 and chemistry 7:1. They have a centralised admissions system for all courses except medicine. Most admissions are based on the UCAS form but law use LNAT and medicine use UKCAT, an online questionnaire is also used for medicine, veterinary science and nutrition. The weight given to GCSE results vary, with law saying they do not look at them. Of the 2500 applicants for medicine, 400 did not meet the minimum GCSE requirements (this would be similar ratio to other elite universities for competitive courses). The natural science degree includes; Archaeology, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geography, Maths, Physics & Astronomy and Psychology. Students take 3 modules in the first year and then specialise in 2. Nottingham enables students to gain accreditation for volunteer work and other extra curricula activities, as well as undertaking various modules, and work experience; www.notingham.ac.uk/advantageaward has more details. Around 1/3 of Nottingham students received a university bursary last year; family income up to £15k receive £3k; £15-£25k up to £2k; £25k-£35k up to £1k and £35k-£42.5k up to £750.
